Arthur Eugene Austin

Arthur Eugene (Gene) Austin, age 86, of Lexington, Mississippi, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Gene was born on March 27, 1939, in Savannah, Tennessee, to Hershel and Louise Austin. He graduated from Central High School in Savannah, Tennessee, and earned a B. S. Degree in Agriculture from the U. T. Martin in Martin, Tennessee. He worked for U.S.D.A. and John Deere Company before building his roots in Lexington, Mississippi, as manager of Peaster Tractor Company.

Gene was a member and served as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Mississippi. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was well known for his generosity and kindness and loved by his family, church family, and community.
Gene is survived by his wife, Norlenia Austin, daughter, Gena (Charley) Boykin from Brandon, Mississippi, son, Dane (Lilly) Austin of Lexington, Mississippi, son Jay (Judy) Austin from Madison, Mississippi, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, brother-in-law John Horton, nephew Jason (Jessica) Horton, and four great nieces of Savannah, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Louise Austin, and his sister, Janice Horton.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Mortimer-Southern Funeral Home in Lexington, Mississippi, at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, in Lexington, Mississippi followed by graveside services at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, Mississippi.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 127, Lexington, Mississippi 39095 or a charity or organization of their choice.
