Dixie Lee Winborn Chapman of Madison, MS, most recently residing in Gallatin, TN, went home to heaven on September 23, 2025. Dixie was born March 15, 1934, in Durant, MS. She was married to Joe B. Chapman, Jr. for 65 years, who preceded her in death in 2020. Dixie graduated from Durant High School in 1952. She obtained a BS degree from Millsaps Methodist College in Jackson, MS. She began her career as a Junior High Science teacher, and then, after obtaining a Library Science degree, she worked as a librarian in various schools in MS and TN. She retired after 21 years with the Mississippi Library Commission, having served at the Library for the Blind in Jackson, MS. Once their children were grown, Dixie was active with her husband, Bro. Joe, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church for almost 30 years, serving as church librarian, children's Sunday School teacher, Women's Missionary Union member, singing in the choir, and various other roles as needed. She also traveled on mission trips and supported other activities of the church. She enjoyed collecting bird and angel figurines.
In addition to her husband, Dixie was preceded in death by her father, Wickam Moore Winborn, and mother, Doris Adams Willis Winborn Jobe. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Ann (Gary) Smith, sons, Daniel Houston (Ivy) Chapman, Joe Cass (Betsy) Chapman, John Michael (Debbie) Chapman, grandchildren, Heather Nicole Smith (Mario) Martinez, Brandon Todd (April) Smith, Casey Lynne Chapman (Jamie) Goldstone, Tyler Daniel (Lachelle) Chapman, Myles David Chapman, Aubrey Brooks (Rebecca) Chapman, Cassie Jo-Chapman (Cecil) Lovette, and 20 great grandchildren. Dixie (affectionately known as DeeDee) will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 7469 Old Canton Road, Madison, Mississippi 39110.
Visitation will be held at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the service following. Graveside service and burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 788 Rockport Rd., Lexington, MS.
