Rest In Lexington

Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the family residence for George David McCaleb, 98, who passed away Monday evening following a lengthy illness. The Rev H. N. McKibben officiated, assisted by the Rev. H. L. Smith. Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery.

Mr. McCaleb was born in Ripley, Tennessee, February 4, 1855, and was one of eight children. He moved to Holmes county with his parents in 1871. He was the son of James Monroe and Mary E. Bradford McCaleb. On February 7, 1853, he was married to Mary Urvinah Buck and soon thereafter purchased the U. H. Buck home on the Ebenezer road, where he lived until his death. He was the oldest white citizen in Holmes county.

Mr. McCaleb was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He lived through wars, the Civil War, Spanish American, World War I and II, and he Korean War. He served as Justice of the Peace in Lexington for four terms.

Mr. McCaleb was a friend to both white an colored, and his passing will be mourned by both.

He is survived by six daughters: Mrs Inez Roach and Mrs. L. W. Rabb, Lexington; Mrs. T. C. Bunch, Indianola; Mrs. J. H. Hayles, Cleveland; Mrs. W. F. Darnell, Tchula and Mrs. Homer McKinney, Indianola; one son, D. R. McCaleb, Greenwood. Also surviving are a number of grandchildren.

His grandsons will be active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends.
