Obituary
Margaret Lillian Keirn Spurgeon, lifelong resident of Greenwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Country Meadow Personal Care Home. She was 81 years old.
She was born here on July 29, 1940 to the late Claud Leake Keirn, Jr. and his wife Margaret Campbell Keirn. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1958 and from Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus where her aunt, Nellie Sutton Keirn, served as Dean of Women and later President of the college.
Afterwards she returned home and went to work for the Mississippi State Department of Welfare as a social worker where she spent her entire career and maintained a sincere interest in her clients.
She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and an avid reader and history lover who stayed abreast of current events all her life.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Claud Leake Keirn, III (Bud).
She is survived by her sister, Rebecca Keirn Seawright of Greenwood and sister-in-law, Christy Case Keirn of Mountain Home, Arkansas. She also leaves behind four nieces, Lesley Artyn Keirn Nolan, Raquel Keirn Diedrich, Keirn Seawright Wilson and Rebecca Durden Seawright Bishop and one nephew, Joseph Power Seawright, Jr., as well as 13 great nieces and nephews all of whom she adored.
The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadow for the excellent care she received during her residence there.
Her family will gather at a graveside service at the family plot in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, Mississippi.
