AJ Davis went home to be with his Heavenly Father peacefully on May 13, 2012 at home in Lexington, Mississippi. He was born February 22, 1924. He was the son of the late Brady Howard Davis and Lucy Bevill Davis. AJ was a serviceman and veteran in World War II serving in the Navy. He was a lifetime resident of Lexington, MS, owner of Davis Volunteer Grocery and was employed by Southern Funeral Home. Some of his other interests included Lions Club, member of Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge. Mr. Davis was a lifelong and active member of First Baptist Church and The Nathan Aldridge Sunday School Class. He was a proud family man and loved spending time with his family and enjoying the many activities of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
AJ leaves behinds his lovely wife of 66 years, Johnnie Rodgers Davis and one brother, Raymond B. Davis. Other survivors include his three children: Bill Davis (Lena), Bonnie Davis Wiggers (Gray), and Glenda Davis Branscome (Ray), 6 grandchildren: Haley O’Reilly Woodward (Davis), Bryan Davis (Leslie), Brady Davis (Kara), Hayes O’Reilly (Terri), Morgan Wiggers, and Jane Gray Wiggers Bledsoe (Allan), and 5 great grandchildren.
The service was held on Tuesday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lexington, MS. Pallbearers included Bryan Davis, Brady Davis, Hayes O’Reilly, Morgan Wiggers, Davis Woodward, Allan Bledsoe, Freddy Baine, and Sonny Brock. Honorary pallbearers included members of the Nathan Aldridge Sunday School Class and his Holmes County Bank Coffee Buddies. Memorials can be made in his memory to First Baptist Church in Lexington, MS.
