ALTON BROOKS PARKER
Former City Clerk Dies in Lexington
Alton Brooks Parker, 72, died November 15 at the County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Rev. Leslie Nabors officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mr. Parker retired as City & Tax Collector of Lexington in February, 1975, serving in this capacity 24 years.
He was a native of Yazoo County, a member of First United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Shearer Parker of Lexington; one son, Alton Parker of Jackson; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Nelson of Laurel; three sisters, Mrs. Labon Hilbun of Walls, Mrs. Gelix Fraiser and Mrs. W.M. Dubard of Itta Bena; and 4 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Julian Watson, Ed Thurmond, Pat Barrett, Jr., Teddy Moses, Chick Weathersby, Mike Lammons and Richard Hammett.

Per their wedding announcement printed in the Times Post, Houston, Miss., dated March 19, 1936, Alton Brooks Parker and Martha Rose Shearer were to be married Easter Sunday, April 12th, 1936 in Houston, Chickasaw Co., Miss.
