Sara Stephens Barrett
Mrs. Stara Stephens Barrett, 71, longtime resident of Lexington died at home on February 25 following a long illness.
Services were held at First United Methodist Church in Lexington at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Tom Hollowell officiated.
Mrs. Barrett received her college education at MUW and Milsaps College where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was married to Pat M. Barrett of Lexington on November 2, 1940. Daughter of a Methodist minister, Dr. John E. Stephens, Mrs. Barrett was a leader in her church and the community. Her church activities over the years included serving as Spiritual Life leader for Methodist Women for over twenty-five years, and chairman of the Parsonage Committee for twenty years.
A deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ undergirded and illuminated her life and was a source of peace, strength, and joy to her and her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to all she did for her family, Mrs. Barrett always found time for others. Her generosity knew no bounds and her gracious charm brought a glow to the lives of countless persons.
She is survived by her husband, Pat M. Barrett; two sons, Pat M. Barrett, Jr. and John W. (Don) Barrett of Lexington; two daughters, Sally B. Barrett of Lexington and Mildred McGill of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren: Laura O. Barrett, Pat M. Barrett, III, Richard R. Barrett, Jonathan P. Barrett, Katherine S. Barrett, Charles F. Barrett, Sara B. Harvey, Donald R. McGill, Jr., John Oliver McGill, James S. Caden, Rachel Melissa Barrett and Rebecca Elizabeth McGill.
Also surviving is Mrs. Barrett’s sister, Mrs. Mildred Stephens Runft of Lexington.
Pallbearers were Harold Hammett, Jr., Ed Wilburn Hooker, Bootsy Hooker, Billy Russell, Bryan Jones, Billy martin, B. W. Humphrey, John Downer, and Chick Weathersby.
