W. O. Barrett, beloved citizen of Lexington and head of a prominent Holmes county family died at his home in Lexington early Monday morning. He was 82 years old and had been in failing health for several months.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Funeral Home in Lexington. Dr. J. F. Stephens of Greenwood, former Methodist pastor in Lexington, officiated at the rites. He was assisted by the Rev. P. D. Bragg, pastor of the Lexington Baptist Church. Interment followed in Odd Fellows i cemetery.

Mr. Barrett was a native of Edwards and came to Lexington as a young man. He established Barrett Grocery Company, wholesale grocers, and engaged in farming in the Delta. He founded the First National Bank of Lexington in 1929 and acted as the president until his retirement several years ago. He was a charter member and a past P president of the Lexington Rotary Club and had always been active and influential in the life of his community, county, and city.

Mr. Barrett was a gentleman of the highest Christian character and exemplified those ideals in living every day of his life. He was highly regarded by everyone who knew him and greatly beloved beloved by a wide circle of personal friends.

Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Rachel Burwell Barrett, two daughters, Mrs. L. R. Thompson of Lexington and Mrs. Olivia Linfield of Gulfport; three sons, Will Barrett, Pat M. Barrett of Lexington and Dick Barrett of Keirn and Lexington; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers and four sisters, John W. Barrett of Bethlehem, Penn, Don Carlos and James C. Barrett, both of Oakland, California, the Misses Elizabeth Cornelia, Arrah and Alliene Barrett, also of Oakland.

Pallbearers were M. A. Scobey, LeRoy Paris, Howard Green, B. M. Jones, John Howard Beall, Harold Hammett, Wilburn Hooker. Burwell Humphrey Jr., Norman Weathersby, C. A. Moore, Allan Ramsey, E. F. Rathell and J. S. Watson, Jr.
