Bertha L. Pilgrim Byrd

Bertha Lucille Pilgrim Byrd, 85, formerly of Lexington died on March 7, 2005, at Comperes Nursing Home in Jackson.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Steveline officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Southern Funeral Home of Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Byrd, a former nurse, was born on January 18, 1920, in Yazoo County to James and Louise Hart Pilgrim. She was a member of Hebron Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Douglas (Brenda) Byrd of Florence; brother, James Pilgrim of Pickens; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Doyle Gilmore, Sr., Roy Ward, Phil Williamson, John Pilgrim, Billy Bradley, Timmy Thomas, Mike Pilgrim, and Aaron Gantt.

Honorary pallbearers were Lester Bradley, Hayes Grantham, Mack Grantham, Shade Bethany, Floyd Crapps, Malcolm Phillips, and Tommy Gantt.
