Obituary
Shade Albert Bethany Jr.

DEKALB – Shade Albert Bethany Jr. born January 25, 1927, in DeKalb, Mississippi quietly left this earthly home for the mansion Jesus prepared especially for him. Before taking his heavenly flight, Shade was surrounded by his loving wife of 64 years, his devoted daughter, and his three sons.

After completing high school, Shade furthered his education by attending East Central Community College in Scooba, Mississippi, and then transferred to Mississippi State University. He was a cheerleader for a short time and enjoyed riding in his convertible and socializing.

Shade loved his country. He was a WWII veteran, spending a majority of that time as Quartermaster. After the army, Shade became a salesman for Kennington's and Sears Department Stores. These experiences led him to buying and operating his own dry goods business in Lexington. The K and B was his livelihood for 40 years. His customers often referred to him as "Mr. K and B".

When Shade was not working, he enjoyed spending leisure time watching the Mississippi State Bulldogs play football. Actually, he watched any sport and any SEC team. He served as commander of American Legion Post 18 in Lexington for 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Many of his days were spent playing checkers with his friends at Ziegler's Barber Shop. As he got older and walking became difficult for him, Shade would sit on the porch, watch hummingbirds, and drink his tea that Joyce had brought him.

Shade was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, and his precious daughter, Lisa.

Arrangements will be at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington, Mississippi, with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. and the funeral at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

The people missing Shade the most will be his dear wife, Joyce Bethany; his daughter, Nancy Bryant of Madison, Mississippi (David); sons, Mitch Bethany of Lexington, Mississippi (Lisa), Chris Bethany of Lexington, Mississippi (Eva) and Shade Bethany of Sarepta, Mississippi (ZK). Shade was blessed with a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren that will miss their Pawpaw.
