Obituary

Walter Mather Brister, Jr.

Walter Mather Brister, Jr. of Brandon, 60, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2007. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home (Highland Colony Parkway) with the burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.

Walt was a native of Yazoo City and a long time resident of Brandon. He was a 1964 graduate of Benton High School and a 1968 graduate of Mississippi State University.

Walt's career spanned 38 years beginning with Boeing Computer Services during the Apollo Space Missions both at Cape Kennedy, FL, and Huntsville, AL. His career continued in the computer services for the State of Tennessee followed by Genesco. Walt's career then brought him back to Jackson, where he remained for over 20 years at Amdahl Corporation. Walt currently served as Manager of Technical Services for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.

Affectionately referred to as "Bubber" by family and friends, he had a passion for reading, researching family history, building computers and Mississippi State athletics.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of 42 years, Linda Baughn Brister; son, Michael Brister of Chicago, IL; son, Matt Brister of Brandon; daughter, Amanda Brooks of Memphis, TN; mother, Jeanette Brister of Vaughan; sisters, Ann Beggiani of Madison, Martha Ingram of Vaughan; brother Bob Brister of Madison; and mother-in-law, Tootsie Baughn of Lexington. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mather Brister, Sr., and his father-in-law, Johnnie Baughn.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 322 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, 4395 South Drive, Jackson, MS 39209.
