Obituary
Sybil Cartee

Sybil Jeanette (Truitt) Cartee died about midday on Monday, September 15, 2014, at the Cypress Point Nursing Home in Bossier City, Louisiana. She had recently reached her 72nd birthday on July 30. Sybil was born in Lexington, Mississippi to the late W. D. and Pearl Mae Truitt and was the granddaughter of the late Robert F. and Margaret Siddon Truitt and the late James (Sr.) and Leminoy Tate Bevill, all of Holmes County, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Lee Cartee, a brother, Roland Truitt, her sister, Scarlett (Truitt) Donald, a grandson, Thomas Scott Shaffer, and her niece, Sylvia Crowell.

Sybil was a graduate of Lexington High School and Holmes Junior College. She spent most of her adult career as a beautician in the Jackson and Lexington (Mississippi) areas and was a proud member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). When her children were younger, Sybil was involved with their scouting activities. Among her favorite hobbies was her time spent doing cross stitch needle work, and as time permitted, she also enjoyed family research and history.

Sybil leaves to cherish her life and memories her daughters Christina ( James) Shaffer and Melanie (Richard) Kite. She also leaves her sisters and brothers Marjorie (Bob) Crowell, Wanda Seals, Dorothy (George) Bailey, Randy (Jana) Truitt, Roger (Sandi) Truitt, Cindi (Bob) Price, Dudley Truitt, and Eric (Marti) Truitt. Survivors also include her three grandchildren, Amber Nicole Kite, Luke Matthew Shaffer and Christopher James Shaffer. Sybil would also want to acknowledge two very special people who were at one point her step children, but were forever after very dear to her, Paula Shows and Darrell Wallace.

No services, memorials or graveside services are planned at this time.

Southern Funeral Home will be in charge of interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery at a later date.
