C. A. "Bud" Moore
Funeral services for C. A. "Bud" Moore, 78, of Lexington, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4 in Southern Funeral Home Chapel of Lexington. The Rev. Howard Allen was the officiating minister. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mr. Moore, a native of Lexington, died Wednesday, April 3 at his home on Spring Street.
He was the first director of the Mississippi Aeronautical Commission which was formed by the Legislature in 1946 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1977. This commission, under his instructions was responsible for the development of most airports in small Mississippi towns. Also, during this lime the state airport system grew from 16 to 73 facilities, he also played an important role in securing airline service for most of the state's largest communities. The airport in Lexington which he was very instrumental in getting built is named C. A. "Bud" Moore Field. He was an honorary member of the Ole Miss "M" Club; served as president of the National Association of Aviation Officials in 1955; awarded FAA's second highest National Award For his invaluable leadership and contribution of safety and airport planning in 1971; he was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
Active pallbearers wore Don Barrett, Pat Barrett Jr., Ed Wilburn Hooker, Bootsy Hooker, Wyche Hooker and Jimmy Heidel.
Honorary pallbearers were elders and officers of First Presbyterian Church.
It is requested that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lexington.
