Ephraim Cohen, a native Holmes countian and the owner of Cohen’s Department Store in Lexington, until his retirement, died at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson on Wednesday, January 15. He was 84 years of age.
Services for Mr. Cohen were held in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 16 with Rabbi Allan Schwartzman officiating. Masonic graveside services were held with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Mr. Cohen was a Mason and Shriner and was a past Grand High Priest of Mississippi. He served as treasurer of the Beth El Temple in Lexington for more than fifty years and was active in community affairs.
Survivors include his wife, Jocelyn Stern Cohen, one son-Phil Cohen of Lexington, one daughter-Sylvia Lynn Benenson of Dallas, Texas, two sisters-Mrs. Julia Flowers of New Haven, Connecticut and Mrs. Estelle Kahn of Morgan City, Louisiana and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Leon Kahn, Allan Cohen, Freddie Miller, Murray Benenson, Herb Benenson and Steve Benenson.
Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Hyman, Herman Flowers, Edward Schur, Harry Kaplan and Will Wilson.
