Mrs. Lukie Darnell Buried On Sunday

Mrs. Lukie Rogers Darnell, former teacher and clerical worker died at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood Friday night after a long illness. She was 81.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Coleman Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial was in the Lexington Odd Fellows Cemetery.

She was born in the Ebenezer community and attended Mississippi State College for Women at Columbus.

Mrs. Darnell taught for several years in the Holmes County Schools and worked for a time in the Lexington Post Office with her late husband, W.D. Darnell.

For the past 30 years she had lived with her sister, Mrs. J. S. Livingston in Indianola and was employed in secretarial work at the state penitentiary at Parchman and the county agent’s office. She was a Methodist.

She leaves two other sisters, Mrs. Glenn Ewbanks of Indianola and Mrs. Ina Granberry of New Orleans and a brother, G. C. Rogers of Louise.
