Dewitt Clinton Lundy, 82, of Lexington passed away in his home late Tuesday evening, April 8.
Mr. Lundy, a native of Holmes County, had been an active church, business and civic leader for some 50 years, and owned and operated the Coca-Cola plant in Lexington for 50 years.
He was a charter member Corn Club Smith's first 4-H Club, a deacon in First Baptist Church for 50 years, past president of Lexington Rotary Club, past president of Holmes County Country Club, a Mason and Shriner, and a veteran of World War I.
One of his many contributions to the community was the building of Lexington's Girl Scout hut.
Services were held from First Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. with Masonic rites at the graveside in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Gus Merritt and Rev. David Pratt officiated. Rob Henley, a grandson from New Orleans, played the organ during the church services.
His survivors include three daughters: Mrs. R.S. Henley and Mrs. Jack White of Lexington, and Mrs. Ted Batson of Haughton, Louisiana; one sister, Mrs. Goldie L. Lax of Lexington, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Miss Betty Pitchford, had preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Bill White, Drew White, Jim Henley, Thad Henley, Mark Henley, Roy Gelston, Drew Lundy, Jr., and Henry McClellan.
