Dora Pearl G. Tidwell
Dora Pearl Garner Tidwell of Hernando, 96, retired Bell South operator, formerly of Lexington, passed away Friday, December 17, 2004 after a long illness.
Services were held Sunday, December 19 at 2 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Mike O'Brien officiated.
Mrs. Tidwell was born on August 28, 1908 in Tamola to Ida Mae McGee Garner and Joseph Roy Garner. She was married to Lloyd Calvin Tate and bore a son, Ramon Calvin Tate in 1930, but was widowed in 1937. Later she married Kelly Barber "Bob" Tidwell in 1941. She was active in her community through The Telephone Pioneers, Garden Study Club, Baptist Women's Association and as a Chamber of Commerce Chairman.
She began working for Southern Bell Telephone Company Newton in 1925 and was appointed chief operator in 1965. And served there until her retirement in 1973 with nearly 50 years of service. Dora was a member of Hernando Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Kelly Barber Tidwell of Hernando; son, Ramon Tate of Lexington; sister, Eddie Lou Reynolds of Tampa, Florida; 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ramon Tate, Jr., Marvin Sterling, Earl Tate, Brad Cothran, Chris Shaw, and Andrew Harding.
