As reported by Patrick Dunn, son of Fred, "Fred served in the Navy band and played the piccolo."


Fred Avent Dunn was a native of Grenada County and was a retired Criminal Investigator for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater; and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lexington.

Mr. Dunn was a 1942 graduate of Central High School in Jackson. He graduated in 1949 from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelors degree in business administration. Fred as a member of the KA Fraternity, and a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge #24.

He was married to Elaine Dunn of Lexington and had sons, Mike Dunn of Gulfport and Pat Dunn of Mobile, Alabama; daughter, Carol Dunn Roark of Enid; brothers, Tommy Dunn and Wheeler Dunn, both of Jackson, and Bobby Dunn of San Antonio, Texas; a step-brother, Milton Fairchild of Las Vegas, Nevada: sister, Mildred Russell of Birmingham, Alabama, and step sister, Jackie Stanford of Gulfport.
