Obituary
W. J. Eggleston Buried Tuesday In Odd Fellows

Funeral services for William Joseph Eggleston, plantation owner, gin company president and stock broker, of Shelby were held Tuesday afternoon at the Episcopal Church in Clarksdale. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.

Mr. Eggleston, 55, died Sunday at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.

A native of Lexington, he attended University of Mississippi and was graduated from Rice Institute at Houston, Texas. He was an assistant gunnery officer of the USS Gillespie in the Pacific during World War II, and earned six battle Stars.

After the war, he operated Mayfair, the family plantation, and Merry Acres, his own plantation.

He was a communicant of St. George's Episcopal Church in Clarksdale.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ann May Eggleston; a son, William J. Eggleston, Jr., of Memphis; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Flagler of Oxford, and Miss Cathy Eggleston of Mayfair Plantation; his mother, Mrs. S. A. Eggleston and a sister, Mrs. Sara Baine, both of Tchula.
