Elbert Sykes Rites Held On Sunday

Services were held Sunday afternoon at four o’clock from the First Methodist Church in Lexington for Elbert Sykes, 40, who died Saturday afternoon at his home from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The Rev. H. L. Smith officiated, assisted by the Rev. H. N. McKibben. Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery with Southern in charge.

Mr. Sykes was a member of the Methodist Church. At the time of his death he was engaged in the plumbing business.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Charles, Tommy and Lamar, all of Lexington; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Melton, Durant; his mother, Mrs. Mary Sykes, of Duck Hill; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Hensley, Duck Hill; Mrs. Jim Shaw, Winona; and Mrs. Janie Alldread, Winona; three brothers, Jim Sykes and Allen Sykes of Duck Hill and A. L. Sykes with the armed forces in the Philippine Islands. Also surviving is one granddaughter. Patti Lou Melton of Durant.
