Ellis I. Harris
Ellis I. Harris, 81, of Tchula died of heart failure Wednesday, August 30 at Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi in Lexington.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 1 at Tchula United Methodist Church with Rev. Sonny Potts officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington with Southern Funeral Home handling arrangements.
A retired farmer and merchant, Mr. Harris was born in Chickasaw County. He was a World War II Army veteran. He had been married to the former Frances Foose for 53 years. He was owner of Tchula Hardware Store and served on the Board of Aldermen of the City of Tchula for a number of years. He was a member of Tchula United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: wife, Frances Foose Harris of Tchula; sons, Ellis I. Harris, Jr. of Tchula, Oliver Nixon Harris of Cruger, Hardy Harris of Jackson, and Kenneth Foose Harris of Tupelo; sister, Elizabeth Harris Frey of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Active pallbearers were James Killebrew, Jr., Byron Sharpe, Jr., Charlie Mac Wade, Jeff James, Don Barrett, Bobby Waldrop, Billy Foose, and Stephen Foose.
Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Waterer, Charlie Wade, Guy Duke, Bluford Taylor, Clifton Booth, Byron Sharpe, Sr., Frank Gwin, Jr., George Cunningham, Jack Sutphen, John Edger Hays, Shelly Young, Gilliam Gwin, Paul Sharpe, Dr. Charles Campbell, Bryon Jones, and Teddy Moses.
