Notes

Emily was the daughter of Thomas and his third wife, Alfrecca Stuart. She accompanied her father, Thomas, to Lexington and was soon followed by her older brother, Seldon, and his friend and William and Mary classmate, John Paul Povall, whom Emily married. After Emily's death in 1870, John, who was a lawyer and a judge, bought "The Booneville Pleader," took his family and moved to Bonneville, MS. Roland Austin, John and Emily's son, grew up in the newspaper business and eventually returned to Lexington.
