Funeral services for Lt. Col. (Ret.) Emmett Calvin Reese, Assistant Superintendent of Holmes County Schools, were held Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church in Lexington with Rev. Gus Merritt officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Reese, 58, died Sunday, Jan. 24 at his residence in Lexington after a lengthy illness. A native of Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of the late John Luther Reese and Sarah Leonard Reese. He retired after 28 years of military service in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Thurmond Reese of Lexington; a daughter, Miss Gail Reese of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters, Miss Alberta Reese of Columbus, Ohio and Mrs. Shirley Young of Hilliard, Ohio; three brothers, Clyde Reese of Hilliard, Ohio, Jacob Reese of Columbus, Ohio, and Dick Reese of Van Nuys, California.
Active pallbearers were Dennis Steen, Henry McClellan, Robert Ware, Ed Malpass, E.E. Shaw, and Walter Smith. Honorary pallbearers were his friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to a favorite charity or to the American Cancer Society.
