Evelyn Tackett Evelyn Tackett, a retired librarian, died Oct. 17, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral on Monday Oct. 22, 2012 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 10:00 am till 11:00 am in St. Francis Hall at the Cathedral. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Family and friends may meet at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington at 2:30 pm to go in a procession to the Odd Fellows Cemetery for the committal.

Miss Tackett was the daughter of Jack Robert and Routh Clarke Tackett, and is survived by several cousins in Tallahassee and Atlanta. She was born in Jackson, MS, was a graduate of Belhaven College, and received her M.L.S. degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

She began her library career as a Field Representative with the Mississippi Library Commission in the early 1960s. In 1965 she became the Associate Librarian at Belhaven College, her alma mater, and she remained there as Library Director and Acquisitions and Cataloging Librarian until her retirement in 1998.

During her working years she co-founded the Jackson Audubon Society, enjoyed bird-watching, and participated in over 35 annual Christmas Bird Counts in the Jackson area; she sang in the Jackson Choral Society and the Central Presbyterian Church choirs for many years, was Business Manager for the Mississippi Library News, and was active in her state professional organization, the Mississippi Library Association.

She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church until it closed, and was a parishioner of St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral.
