Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Cohen Flowers, 100, of New Haven, Connecticut, were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 7 at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington. Rabbi Steven Engle of Jackson officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Flowers died of heart failure, Thursday, February 4 at Whitney Manor Nursing Home in Hamden, Connecticut.
A native of Tennessee, she was born in Memphis in September, 1892. The Cohen family moved to Tchula in - and to Lexington in 1909.
She was the widow of Abreem Flowers. A son, Earl, preceded her in death. For many years she was associated with her husband at Flowers Department Store and after his death in she was in partnership with her son, Herman F. Flowers until 1970. She loved Lexington and was interested civic activities.
For the past 12 years she had living with her daughter, Mrs. Bernard Insler in New Haven, Connecticut.
Survivors include one son, Herman Flowers of Lexington and one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Insler of New Haven, Connecticut; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Billy - , Phil Cohen, Pat Barrett, Jr., Roland Hart, Fred Powers, and Ed Wilburn Hooker, Jr.
