Son of Roland Austin Povall and Gretchen Oltenburg Povall. Husband of Ruth Elmore Povall. From the Claude Clayton papers at the University of Mississippi Special Collections, Battery B of the 144th Artillery of the Mississippi National Guard Battalion was called to active duty in the summer of 1941 at Camp Blandings, Florida. HQ battery commanded by George Povall." Lt. Povall was detected with heart murmur and returned to Lexington from Florida.
