Obituary
George Irby Tate
George Irby Tate, 77, of Lexington, a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died from heart failure Monday, January 14, 2002 at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Officiating ministers were Bro. Doug Applegate and Rev. Mike O'Brien.

Mr. Tate, a native of Holmes County, was a letter carrier for many years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #24.

Survivors include: wife, Audrey W. Tate of Lexington; three sons, George Irby Tate, Jr., Danny Tate, and Ricky Tate, all of Lexington; one brother, Earl Tate of Belzoni; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were Reuben Netherland, Mike Lammons, John Downer, M.D., Billy Cash, A.B. Holder, and Calvin Moore.
