Obituary
L. B. Gilliland, Jr.
Funeral services for Leslie Beall Gilliland, Jr., 49, were held at 2 p.m. Friday from Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with Rev. Leland Jorgenson and Rev. James Yates officiating. Interment was in Lexington with graveside services conducted by Rev. Howard Allen and Rev. Joey Pipa.

Mr. Gilliland died late Thursday afternoon at Kings Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City following a heart attack.

He was the son of Kathryn Gibson and the late Leslie Bean Gilliland, Sr., of Lexington, and the grandson of the late Necie Beall and Jonas A. Gilliland of Lexington and Kosciusko, and the late Lillie Gibson and Jason Caldwell Gibson of Lexington.

A native of Holmes County, for the past ten years he had resided in Yazoo City where he was an accountant with Southland Company. He had retained his cattle and farming interests in Holmes County.

Mr. Gilliland was a member of the sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cattlemen's Association, Lexington Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Lexington Rotary Club. He was a veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart and Presidential Citation.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Caffey Gilliland; two sons, Jerry Gibson Gilliland, and Barry Holmes Gilliland of Yazoo City; a daughter, Mrs. Renee Gilliland Taylor of Jackson, and his mother, Mrs. L.B. Gilliland, Sr., of Lexington.

Pallbearers were Homer C. Hood, Charles McCool, Bill Harvey, Tom Backstrom, Henri Watson, Jr., and James “Bubber” Dixon.
