Obituary
Howard Ellis Grantham
Services for Howard Ellis Grantham Sr., 82, of Lexington, who died of cancer Sunday, Oct. 2, 1994, at his home, were at 1 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington.

Mr. Grantham, a Holmes County native, was retired from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where is served as a deacon for many years.

Mr. Grantham was instrumental in founding the Sand Hill Conservation League in the Sand Hill community of Holmes County and served as its president for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Mable Roberts Grantham of Lexington; a son, Howard E. Grantham Jr. of Madison; two daughters Patricia Gillespie of Tchula and Betty Jean Grantham of Greenwood; two sisters, Christine Williamson and Elsie Ellis, both of Lexington; five grandchildren, George Gillespie Jr., Shannon G. Watson, Myles L. Grantham, Tyler Grantham and Kyle Grantham; and one great-grandchild, Colby Ryan Watson.

Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Dr. Mike O'Brian and Rev. Tray Earnhart officiated.

Pallbearers were Jimmy McClellan, Wayne Ellis, Bubber Carnathan, Billy Zeigler, Danny Pepper and Sonny Brock.

Honorary pallbearers were Melvin "Bo" Grantham Jimmy Grantham, Earl Ellis, Henry B. McClellan, Mack Grantham, Hayes Grantham and Charles Ellison.
