Obituary
Mrs. William O. Carter, Sr.
Mrs. William O. (Graye) Carter, 94, of Lexington and Jackson died October 10, at Miss. Baptist Medical Center.

Services were held in Lexington Sunday afternoon, October 12 at p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Odd Fellows’ Cemetery. Southern Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Carter was born in Clarksdale and attended Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. A member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington, she loved people, family, flowers and her church. She was a charter member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her son, William O. Carter, Jr., of Jackson; daughter, Mrs. A. P. (Virginia) Shepherd of Greenwood; nine grandchildren: Dr. A. P. Shepherd, Jr., San Antonio, TX, Mrs. Oscar (Sherry) Wynne, Greenwood, Mrs. Bill (Diane) Pearce, Greenwood, William Douglas Shepherd, Denver, CO, Dr. Richard G. Carter, Houston, TX, Catherine Carter, Starkville, Mrs. Preston (Pamela) Hoots, Lexington, Mrs. Bill (Patsy) Floyd, Goodman, Kate Carter, Jackson; great-grandchildren: Genevieve Shepherd, San Antonio, TX; Oscar Wynne, Jr., Greenwood; Mrs. Tammy Tanksley, Greenwood; Lindsey Pearce, Greenwood; great-great- grandchildren: Megan Tanksley and Mark Tanksley, Jr.

Preceding Mrs. Carter in death were her husband in 1940, a daughter Graye Rutledge in 1978, and a son Richard Gordon Carter in 1985.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lexington, the American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.

Serving as pallbearers were: Dr. A.P. Shepherd, Jr., Oscar Wynne, Bill Pearce, Douglas Shepherd, Dr. Richard Carter, Bill Floyd. Buster Reed, and Bill Cullen.
