Mrs. Martha J. Hartje
Succumbed Wednesday
Mrs. Martha Jane Hartje, 87, lifelong resident of Lexington, died at her home Wednesday night at 9 o’clock following an illness of the past three weeks. Funeral services will be held at Harrell’s Funeral Chapel Friday morning at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. T. McCafferty. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Mrs. Hartje was a native of South Carolina. She made her home in Lexington since early girlhood following her marriage. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Hartje was a pioneer resident of the city and known for her many fine qualities of womanhood. She was a staunch friend and good neighbor to all who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Annie Hartje. Lexington and Mrs. Paul Thomas, Greenwood. Sympathy is extended them in their loss and sorrow.
