Maude Harthcock Hearn Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Harthcock Hearn, 97, of the Brozville Community, near Lexington, were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at Harland Creek Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were Rev. Roger Richardson, Rev. Billy Barron, and Dr. Mike O'Brien. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington with Southern Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Mrs. Hearn died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at University Hospital and Clinics-Holmes County in Lexington.
She was the widow of W. E. Woody Hearn, who passed away in 1989.
A native of Holmes County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Lillie A. Wade Harthcock. She was a member of Harland Creek Baptist Church.
A retired school teacher, she received her education at Holmes Agricultural High School in Goodman and Delta State University. For 15 years she taught school at Coxburg, also 35 years at Midway School, Benton High School and Benton Academy, making a total of 50 years in her teaching career. She was also basketball coach at Benton High School.
Mrs. Hearn was selected Forester of the Year 1996-97. This award was presented by the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include: two daughters, Thena Tootsie Baughn of Lexington and Maxine Terry of Pensacola, Florida; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were: Mac Abernathy, Richie Abernathy, Joe C. Ables, Mabry Ables, Jody Zeigler, and Clarence Pierce.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Downer, Dr. Charles Campbell, and her nephews.
