Obituary
Henri P. Watson, Jr.
Madison - Surrounded by many friends and his large and loving family, Henri Phillips Watson, Jr. left this life peacefully and at home on May 2, 2015. He leaves a rich and happy legacy of kindness, gentleness, patience and love. A devoted founding member of Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church in Madison, and a past Deacon and Elder in Covenant Presbyterian Church in Jackson. Mr. Watson was unshakable in his faith and fearless in his love of life and the Lord. As a lifelong farmer and outdoorsman, his enthusiasm for hunting and for all things relating to farming did nothing but grow stronger over the whole of his 96 years of life. Mr. Watson never lost his mobility or his keen wit and wonderful sense of humor and was thus both blessed and a blessing to all of us who loved him. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved and kindred spirit wife, Shelby McKay Watson and is survived by a loving and close family, including nine children, eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Henri was born at home in Lexington on April 29, 1919 to his parents, Henri P. Watson, Sr. and Virginia Chew Watson. He attended Rhodes College in Memphis, where he was later to become a member of the Board of Trustees, and served five years as an Artillery Captain during WW II. He spent his working life managing the various farms and other properties that he owned and took a particular interest in the farm he had near Sunflower Mississippi that bordered the farm of his father. The only aspect of his working life that was evident to most however was his love of cattle and ranching. After running a large commercial cattle trading operation for most of his life, he began in his 70's what was to become one of the best registered Beefmaster cattle herds in the state. Managing his cattle operations was a lifelong source of peace and pleasure for him. He maintained an absolute boyish enthusiasm for hunting, fishing, friends and family his whole life. Even to the end he continued hunting ducks and turkeys and went fishing every day the weather allowed. We will never forget the sparkle in his eyes and laugh in his heart.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 7th at Grace Chapel (307 New Mannsdale Rd, Madison, MS) at 12:00 noon, followed by a 2 pm service, with interment following at 4 pm at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, MS.
