Rites Held Today
In Lexington

Final rites for Henry Willis Watson, 78, well known citizen of Lexington, were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 4:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with the Rev. Hayes Clark, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Watson, a retired business man and civic leader, passed away at his home in Lexington Tuesday morning about 11:00 after a long illness.

He was a native citizen of Holmes county having been born at Lexington on January 30, 1875, the son of the late Dr. John A. Watson who came to Holmes county in pioneer days from Walton County, GA. His mother was the former Anna Brewster Willis, a native of Oswego, N.Y.

Mr. Watson was an elder in the Presbyterian Church for many years and a charter member of the Lexington Rotary Club. He was an active Mason for many years and was made a Master Mason in 1896. He served as master of the Lexington ??? in 1905 and was secretary-treasurer member of the board of trustees of the Holmes County Community Hospital and served as its chairman for 14 years until 1947. He was chairman of the Holmes County Democratic Executive Committee for one term.

Active in the hardware and lumber business for a number of years, Mr Watson engaged in the insurance business and was in that business when failing health compelled his retirement.

Serving in two wars, Mr. Watson was a sergeant with Company K of the Second Mississippi Volunteer Infantry of the Spanish American War and was discharged from World War I with the rank of second lieutenant in the Air Force Aeronautics.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ann Meredith Watson and two step-daughters, Mrs. Chester W??? of Jackson and Mrs. E? Abbott, Jr. of Gulfport. Two sisters also survive. They are Mrs Anita Watson Dyer of Jackson and Mrs. Nettie Watson McClellan of Jackson.

Interment was in Odd Fellows cemetery with Southern in charge of arrangements.
