John Garrett Herbert, Jr.
John Garrett Herbert, Jr., a resident of Meridian, died Tuesday at the Anderson Hospital in Meridian after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7 at Webb Funeral Home chapel in Meridian with the Reverend David Shepperson officiating. Graveside services and interment were in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Born and reared in Lexington, Mr. Herbert was the son of Eloise Watson and the late John Garrett Herbert. He received his education in the Lexington schools and at the University of Mississippi. He was employed as an interviewer with the Mississippi Employment Service and was a member the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Lynn Herbert; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lynn Bray, Meridian; his mother, Mrs. Louise Watson Herbert of Lexington; two brothers, Raford Watson of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Francis Lansdale Herbert of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Norman Weathersby, Jr., Jack Yates, Louie Bealle Nichols, Julian Watson, Pat Barrett, Jr., J. B. Watson, Don Barrett, Ed Thurmond, Wilburn Hooker, Jr., and Tom Riley.
