Eugene S. Herrman passed away July 6 in the Holmes County Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 74 years of age.
Mr. Herrman was a lifelong resident of Lexington. He graduated from Lexington High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis. Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his return from service he resumed the operation of Herrman Insurance Agency in Lexington.
Mr. Herrman was active in many civic organizations. He was president of the local chapter of Jaycees and was vice president of the State Junior Chamber of Commerce; and former member of the Board of Alderman of Lexington.
In addition he was past president of the Lexington Rotary Club. He also served two terms as president of the Holmes County Country Club; served as commander of the V.F.W.; and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include: his wife, Janet Whitehead Herrman of Lexington: his daughter, Betty Herrman of Atlanta, GA; and his sister, Irma Herrman Paris of Lexington.
Active pallbearers were: Charles H. Dante, David H. Masur, Dave Grundfest, Jr., Dr. Melvin Anhalt, Robert L. Berman, Leroy H. Paris, II, Edgar M. Buchanan, W. Carey Whitehead, Jr., and Dudley S. Burwell.
Honorary pallbearers were: Herman Flowers, C. A. (Bud) Moore, Wilburn Hooker, Pat Barrett, Will Wilson, Will McWilliams, Isaac King, Dr. Charles Campbell, Johnnie Baughn, Dr. Gordon Russell, Celian Lewis, Morris Lewis, Jr., Herbert Hyman, Ellis Harris, James Cunningham, James Cunningham, Jr., Charlie Wade, Bill Schneller, Brian Sullivan, William N. Taylor, Dr. C. Ralph Daniel, Jr., and W.R. “Billy” Ellis.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 7 from the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Officiating minister was Rabbi Allan Schwartzman. He was assisted by Rev. Howard Allen.
The family asks that any contributions be made to the Leukemia Society.
