Funeral services for H. L. Malone, 75, of Lexington were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26 at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington. Rev. Dale VanNess was the officiating minister. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mr. Malone died Saturday, June 24 from complications of diabetes at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson.
A native of Holmes County, he was a retired riverboat cook, a World War II Army veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church in Lexington. He worked for 17 years as a cook for Greenville Towing Company. During World War II he served in the Philippines where he received the Bronze Star.
Survivors include: wife, Nadine Malone of Lexington; daughter, Beverly Brown of Lexington; sons, Danny Malone of Petal, Paul Hale of Canton and Doyle Hale of Pensacola, Florida; sisters, Lennie Bradley and Ella Mae Willoughby, both of Lexington and Rosa Gelston of Greenville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers were Howard Acy, Larry Pettus, Steve Gelston, Mac Phillips, Harold Dodd Hammett and Harvey Hearn.
