Herbert Abe Hyman, 76, a real estate agent of Lexington, died of a gunshot wound Sunday, January 20 after being robbed in Lexington.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23 at Temple Beth El in Lexington with Rabbi Eric Gurvis officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
A lifelong Lexington resident, Mr. Hyman was a member of Temple Beth El. He owned Hyman Real Estate in Lexington and was active in real estate in several states, including Louisiana, Alabama, Illinois and California.
Mr. Hyman, who attended Tulane University, was a former owner of the Black Creek Charcoal Co., and had worked for Lewis Grocer Co. He was a member of the Lexington Rotary Club, past president of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was very active and interested in any way that he could help with getting industries to locate in Holmes County
He also was president of Temple Beth El. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Hyman of Lexington; two daughters, Gina and Barbara Hyman, both of Dallas, Texas.
Serving as active pallbearers were Phil Cohen, Edward, Schur, Harry Kaplan, George Booker, Calvin Moore, Mirth Harkins, Joe Moore and Dr. John G. Downer.
