John Stone Hoskins, Jr., was the associate editor of the Lexington Bulletin and was unarmed when he was shot dead during an argument with Bob Chatham, Republican candidate for the state legislature.
He was a brother of William Walton Hoskins, author of "Atlantis and Other Poems" (1881).
