Notes

Jennette was the fourth wife of Thomas Wright, one of the six founders of the First Baptist Church of Lexington. Jeanette was from Springfield, Massachusetts and went to Essex County, Virginia to live with Thomas and his third wife, Alfrecca Stuart Wright, who was a cousin to J. E. B. Stuart, the famous Confederate cavalry leader. Alfrecca died and Thomas married Jeannette, and the two of them moved to Lexington, where Thomas farmed. Jeannette and Thomas had a son, Kirkham Brantley Wright, who was a small child at the time of his father's death and was raised by his sister, Emily Wright Povall and her husband John Paul Povall. Kirkham Brantley finished Ole Miss in 1871 and joined his older brother, Seldon, in San Francisco where he made his fortune in the whaling business. He took with him a former slave named Toby, who shared in the wealth of the venture.
