The father of Dr. William W. Durden, planter, Lexington, Miss., John A. Durden. was born in Warren county, Miss., about 1825, and his grandfather, Anthony Durden, was a native of Tennessee. The latter came to Mississippi at an early day, and although he started out a poor boy, he became quite wealthy as a merchant and planter.
