John Stewart Watson, Jr.
John Stewart Watson, Jr., 89, a retired farmer of Lexington, died of heart failure Friday, February 14 at Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi in Lexington.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington. Officiating ministers were The Rev. Dale VanNess and the Rev. Howard Allen. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
A Lexington native, Mr. Watson was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association for 40 years. He was the son of former Senator John Stewart Watson, Sr. and Mrs. Clara Beall Watson. He graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and attended the University of Virginia, also A and M College. He was an honorary member of the Sand Hill Hunting Club, a retired farmer and cattleman.
Survivors include: a sister, Clara Beall Watson of Lexington; three nieces, Alice Watson Crull of Metairie, Louisiana, Mary F. Watson Raley of Longbeach, Clara Watson Joorfetz of Jackson and four nephews, John Stewart Watson, Julian Watson, Malcolm D. Watson, all of Jackson, and William V. Watson of Collierville, Tennessee.
John Stewart was never married and had no children.
