Obituary
Virgil King, Jr Buried Dec. 10
Virgil Abner King, Jr. of Lexington died Thursday, December 7 at the Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi in Lexington after a lengthy illness of cancer.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lexington with Rev. Michael O’Brien officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Lexington.

Pallbearers were Reuben Netherland, Calvin Moore, Mike Lammons, Allan King, Shade Bethany, Jr. and Phil Cohen.

Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. John Downer, Nathan Aldridge Sunday School Class, deacons of First Baptist Church and members of the Holmes County Election Commission.

A native of Hinds County, Mr. King, 66, was owner of Ben Franklin Store in Lexington and had served as a Holmes County Election Commissioner from Beat One for the past 20 years. He was also former secretary of the Indigent Care Board of the Holmes County Hospital, now the Methodist Hospital, where he served as a trustee for many years.

Mr. King served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington where he served as a former chairman of the deacon body and was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge 24.

Memorials can be made to the Sta-home Hospice. Their address is 105 N. Van Buren Carthage. MS 39051.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara King of Lexington; three sons, Virgil King, III, of Lexington, John Mark King of Grenada and Jeffrey King of Molina, FL; one daughter, Debbie Jones of Juneau, Alaska; his father, Virgil King of Lexington; one sister, Joyce Bethany of Lexington; and nine grandchildren.
