Retired Teacher

LEXINGTON — Lillie Reed Bennett Earle, 69, a retired schoolteacher, died of cancer Wednesday at University Hospital.


Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.in. today at Southern Funeral Home.

Mrs. Earle was native of Clarksdale. She graduated from Clarksdale High in 1948. She received her elementary education degree from Delta State College in 1952 and her master's degree from the University of Mississippi in 1964. She had lived in Lexington since 1952. She taught first grade for 40 years at Lexington Public School and Central Holmes Academy.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, which she had served as president.

Family members said she loved to garden, bird watch and be with children. They said she had a very outgoing personality and was loved by everyone.

Her life was the children whom she taught, her daughters and her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include: husband, Woodson; daughters, Ann Stringer of Canton, Minta Davis of Starkville and Woody Lew Ruschewski of Benton; and six grandchildren.
