Martha Shearer Parker
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Shearer Parker, 88, of Lexington were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 at First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Rev. Bill Garrison officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mrs. Parker died Saturday, March 9 at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood of heart failure.
A native of Houston, Mrs. Parker was a resident of Lexington for 60 years. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, church choir, and Women of the United Methodist church. She was a retired registered nurse having worked mostly for the Holmes County Community Hospital. She had also worked for the State Board of Health, and other hospitals in the area. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. She was the widow of Alton Brooks Parker.
Survivors include: son, Alton Byars Parker of Florence; daughter, Martha Brooks Nelson of Laurel six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Pat Barrett, Jr., Richard Hammett, Julian Watson, John Raiford Ellison, Robert Hammett, and Parker Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers were Isaac King, Pat Barrett, Pepper Tidwell, Ray Johnson, Theo Moses, Dr. Charles Campbell, Dr. John Downer, Woodson Earl and Mike Lammons.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lexington, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
