Mrs. Mary Alice Chason Gilliam
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Chason Gilliam, 81, of Lexington were held from the Southern Funeral Home chapel in Lexington at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 with Rev. Mike O’Brien officiating. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Mrs. Gilliam, a member of First Baptist Church and a native of Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, died at her home in Lexington on Monday, December 17. She was a retired health nurse. She moved to Lexington in 1929 and worked at the Holmes County Community Hospital for a number of years. She continued her work as a nurse with the Holmes County Health Department until her retirement in 1969.
She is survived by a daughter, Sonia G. Truitt of Columbus, Mississippi; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Glisson of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Mrs. F.L. Robbins of Columbia, Mississippi; and one grandson, Hal G. Truitt of Columbus, Mississippi.
Pallbearers were Charles Lee Truitt, Lewis Massey, Winfred Holder, Audrey Holley, Mike Lammons, and James Carroll.
