Funeral Services for Mrs. Sykes Held March 26

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Luna Sykes of Lexington were held Friday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. from the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with burial following in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Reverend Shelby Hathorn officiated the services.

Mrs. Sykes passed away Wednesday, March 24, at the Holmes County Community Hospital, where she had been a patient for two months. She was 62.

A native of Prentiss County, she was the daughter of Robert Mayo and John Ella Johnson Mayo, and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sykes is survived by two sons, Tommy Sykes, and Lamar Sykes, both of Lexington; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Melton of Durant, five brothers Lige Mayo, of St Petersburg, Florida; Lee Mayo, Lois Mayo, Lawrence Mayo and Chasteen Mayo all of Lexington; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Calvin Moore, J.C. Patton, Bill McLellan, Hilton Holley, Dutch Farmer, and Vernon Hathcock.
