Diane Massey
LEXINGTON - On January 4, 2018, Bettie Diane Bouchillon Massey left this life due to complications from pneumonia. She is now with Jesus in her eternal home. On November 23,1955, Diane was born in Durant, Mississippi, to Graydon Eugene Bouchillon and Bettye Sue Edwards Bouchillon. On July 5,1974, Diane married Sammy DuBard Massey; and on October 12, 1976, they welcomed their son, Christopher Eugene Massey, into the world.
Diane was predeceased by her father, Graydon Bouchillon, her step-father, Garland Jones; and her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Nichols Bouchillon. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Sammy Massey; son, Christopher Massey (Leslie Faith); granddaughter, Caroline Massey; grandsons, Branden Hines and Zachary Roberson (Nicole); and great-grandson, Oakly Roberson; mother, Bettye Farmer; sister Jackie Bouchillon Trueblood (Roy); brothers, Gene Bouchillon and Tommy Jones (Sandra); and sister-in-law, Diane Mitchell (Tommy). She is also survived by four nieces, three nephews, six great-nieces, and three great-nephews, as well as many friends who loved her dearly.
Diane attended Durant Elementary School; East Holmes Academy in West, Mississippi; and Cruger-Tchula Academy in Cruger, Mississippi.
For approximately eighteen years, Diane was employed by Bruce and Libby Hill as bookkeeper for the Holmes County Herald. Bruce and Libby shared that Diane was a loyal employee, one who never wanted to miss work, even when she was ill. They also shared that at the Herald, you did whatever had to be done, regardless of your title, and Diane always did her best in every task assigned to her.
Diane and Sammy were members of First Baptist Church of Lexington, Mississippi, for approximately 35 years. During that time, Diane served in many capacities with a servant’s heart. For the past three years, Diane and Sammy have worshiped at Grace Fellowship Church where Diane faithfully served as Treasurer.
Diane was driven by her love for Christ, her family, and her friends; and God blessed Diane with the gift of service. She never said no to anyone in need, and she gave her life to helping others. One of Diane’s primary ministries was driving people to Jackson and points beyond for doctors’ appointments, visits with family, and shopping; and she did so with a joyful spirit. In addition, she enjoyed baking and blessed many people with her divinity, trash, homemade sweet pickles, and other delectable delights.
Diane was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother,daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Our loss is Heaven’s gain, as this saint and angel has now joined our Heavenly Father.
