Collins Melton, Vaiden bank official, succumbs to long illness
Joseph Collins Melton, 58, the retired manager and vice president of the Vaiden Bank, died Tuesday at Doctors Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Oliver Funeral Home chapel in Winona. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Randol Lindsey officiated.
Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine Weis Melton; two daughters, Miss Camille Melton of Vaiden and Mrs. Terraseta Hodges of Drew; a son, Joseph C. Melton, Jr. of Vaiden; and a brother, Ray S. Melton of Cabot, Arkansas; also, three grandchildren.
Mr. Melton was a veteran of World War II. He was a member and active worker in the Vaiden Baptist Church, a Mason, and a member of the Vaiden Lion's Club. Mr. Melton was instrumental in the organization of the Carroll-Montgomery industrial organization which laid the foundation for the location of Anel Engineering Industries in Carroll County.
Mr. Melton managed the Vaiden Bank for thirty-four years.
Pallbearers were Bob Williams, B. B. Sanders, Charles Ellis, Robbie Rucker, Larry Horn, Ralph Self, Billy Bufkin and Vernon Welch.
