Funeral Services for Miss Meta Moore Held Wednesday.
Miss Meta Martha Moore, retired school teacher of Lexington, died Tuesday, May 9 at the Holmes County hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with Rev. Howard Allen officiating. Interment followed at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.
Miss Moore, a lifelong resident of Lexington, was the daughter of the late Dr. C.A. Moore and Willie Cain Moore. She graduated from Lexington High School as valedictorian, attended Mississippi State College for Women, and graduated from Belhaven College in Jackson. She taught in the Lexington Grammar School and in the Central Holmes Academy from its inception.
She was a pioneer in the field of aviation education, and received national recognition for her writing. Her play, "Sally's Model Airplane Club," was performed by all the schools in Mississippi. She was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church of Lexington.
She is survived by her brother, C.A. "Bud" Moore, and a host of friends.
Memorials may be sent to Palmer Children's Home, Columbus Miss., or the United Cancer Society.
Pallbearers were Glen Campbell, Paul Campbell, Brooks Yates, Max Yates, Tommy Peppers and Brad Cothran.
